THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

The capital of kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, is located at the southwestern tip of India and bounded by the Arabian Sea on the West and Tamilnadu on the east. The wooded highlands in the Western Ghats in the eastern and northeastern borders have endowed Thiruvananthapuram with some of the most scenic picnic spots in the state. Along shoreline with internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments, backwater stretches and a rich cultural destination.

DESTINATIONS
Kovalam

Kovalam is warm and clean filled with the coconut trees and the white sandbed as the seabreeze gently plays with the waves. Swimming and bathing are very refreshing and exhilirating in the waves. One can walk into the sea for about 100 metres without loosing ground. This cove is also the safest place for swimming. At many coastal places there are beautiful patches of coral reefs.

Shanghumugham

The Beach lies about 8 km away, on the Western part of Thiruvananthapuram city. The huge sculpture of a 'Nymph' (Jalakanyaka) made by the famous sculptor Sri Kanai Kunjuraman is a great attraction. Shanghumugham beach wears a festive look during the temple festivals. The beach is more crowded during the weekends and local holidays. Sunset at this beach is sight worth seeing.

Veli

Veli is a very popular picnic spot in Trivandrum. The major attractions here include boating in the Veli lagoon, a nearby beach, children’s park, games, horse riding and a lot of disgusting/beautiful artwork on stone and grass by sculptor Kaanayi Kunjiraman. Veli is about 7 kilometres from the city centre and is very near to Trivandrum airport. You can catch a KSRTC bus (route number 155) or hire a taxi from the city.

Neyyar dam

Neyyar dam lying against the southern low hills of the Western Ghats, 32 kms away from the city is a popular picnic spot with a lake and a picturesque dam site.The lion safari is a star attraction. The reservoir also offers boating facilities in addition to a crocodile farm. A miniature wild life sanctuary, a lake garden and a swimming pool are the major attractions

kuthiramalika

Puthenmalika Palace Museum in Trivandrum is one of the legendary museums in Trivandrum city. Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma, the erstwhile king Travancore, established this architectural masterpiece of Trivandrum city long back in 1800 AD. Puthenmalika (Kuthiramalika) Palace Museum in Trivandrum was built to promote the traditional forms of Indian art.

Napier museum

The Napier museum and art gallery are situated in the Napier Museum compound at the center of the city. The Napier Museum is a 19th century structure, built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The Napier museum houses a rare collection of archaeological and historic artifacts, ancient ornaments, bronze idols, ivory carvings and a chariot.
Vizhinjam Temple

Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple:There are rock-cut sculptures of the 18th century in the cave temple at Vizhinjam. The granite cave here encloses a one-celled shrine with a loose sculpture of Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi. The outer wall of the cave depicts half-complete reliefs of the Hindu God Siva with Goddess Parvathi. Kerala cave temples, of which ten exist, are distributed accordingly in three groups.
Padmanabhapuram

Padmanabhapuram Palace, a superb example of traditional Kerala architecture. Reputed to be the largest wooden palace in India, the Padmanabhapuram Palace is today administered by the Kerala government's Department of Archaeogy, even though it is located in Tamil Nadu - one of the quirky results of the 1956 reorganisation of Indian States along linguistic lines.
Parasurama Temple

A temple dedicated to Parasurama, the legendary founder of Kerala is located here. Devotees throng the holy edifice to offer prayers to the Lord. Parasurama Temple is 7 kms from the main town. This 200 year old temple on the bank of river Karamana, is the only one in Kerala dedicated to Sree Parasurama, the mythological creator of Kerala.This temple is a venue for ancestor worship. As part of the Bali ritual, devotes make offerings to the souls of the dear departed, after taking a dip in the holy water.

Padmanabha temple

Padmanabha Swamy temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture.Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple and they have rules of clothing. Even the male Hindus, must enter the temple wearing only white dhoti.Sri Padmanabha Swamy temple, one of the 108 shrines sacred to Vaishnavas, is held in high veneration. There is a tradition that the God of the temple is believed to have been worshipped by Chandra and Indra. Nammalwar, has sung eleven verses in praise of this place and Lord Padmanabha.
